About
Laotian traditional dance and performance culture became endangered when Laos transitioned to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in 1975 (following the Vietnam War). During this time, many performers under the Royal Palace were displaced, retreating to the United States or the countryside. Because of this, traditional dance and performance culture suffered due to the difficulty of preservation.
Laotian arts are usually passed down from generation to generation, which is why it is important for us to learn from our elders and share our knowledge with others. We believe that younger generations should aspire to pass on what our ancestors taught us.
We believe all Lao people can embrace who they are, define their future, and change the world.
